Happy Valentines Day..
John and I are off to Sydney today.. but wanted to get this to you before I packed..
This is the second time I have written this newsletter today…
The first time, for whatever reason, the computer didn’t save it…
So I am still somewhere between Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Frustration and Acceptance…
(For those who don’t know, that is the Grief Curve first identified by Elizabeth Kubler Ross… the phases almost everyone goes through from when we get a parking ticket to when we get a serious disease…)
Beyond acceptance is New World View… where some people say (even after a serious illness, life change or accident) ‘it was the best thing that ever happened to me..’
Maybe this version will be better than the first..??
Anyway, Lessons from this week
HIT ME
One of my clients asked me to hit him this week..
Let me explain..
He said, ‘next time you give me some of your CD’s and I don’t listen to them… hit me…’
He went on to explain that I had given him our Secrets of Successful Sales Management CD’s, and when he finally did listen to them he realised how he had wasted 2 weeks of recruiting, induction and training time.. That the strategies on the CD’s were way better than what he had done.
Lesson: Sometimes we have to look people in the eye, go toe to toe and let them know the power, the value, the importance of what we are asking them to do…
Then again… ‘when the student is ready, the teacher (and lessons) appear’ (even though they were probably there all along..)
NETWORKING FUN AND PROFIT
Went to my first networking event this year with the Local Chambers of Commerce.
As usual, once I got there, it proved to be both a fun and profitable night..
As soon as I walked in the door a person came to me and introduced me to someone who was very keen to have a chat about how we could help their Sales Team take sales and profits to the next level..
CEO Charles Bellow got me to MC and introduce the guest speaker, Editor of Business News, Mark Pownall, who gave a great talk.
We are all part of a business community. The question is how active a contributer are you to that community?
Lesson: Referrals and word of mouth are the best source of business… and being part of a business community, a Local Chamber, is a great way to benefit..
THE RIPPLE ACROSS ETERNITY
Also this week met with a client from way back in 1995-96..
She talked about the brilliant breakthroughs we facilitated in her organisation back then and how we helped them lead their industry.
She said that even years later people were still quoting some of the principles we taught in that Breakthrough Programme.
It reminded me of the Henry E. Adams quote:
“A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops.”
But isn’t it the same for a parent, a manager, a sporting coach..
Lesson: You can never tell where your influence stops.
Your bosses boss teaches them, they teach you.. and you are teaching your people today..
Finally..
If you’re a coach, consultant, trainer… or you’re thinking of becoming one..
