It’s a big day in the West today..
The Dockers and the Eagles have both won on the same weekend since August 2007 and..
It’s Mothers Day.. I’ve cooked eggs, bacon and tomatoes on toast for the family..
The Fox-tel Mothers Day music classics are playing in the background as my darling wife is cooking scones to take over to her Mother’s place..
The teenagers all got out of bed to eat the eggs and bacon.. and all say something nice to their Mum around the kitchen table..
And all is good..
But will it last for long?
And, did it happen by chance?
The answer to both questions is… unequivocally… NO
And what has this got to do with you and your business?
Two Lessons from our Sales Training, Sales Coaching and Sales Consultancy Lesson Book to help you get the best out of yourself and your sales team.
1. You must facilitate and manufacture moments of celebration, gratitude and togetherness
Here are just a few thoughts to help convince you this is a potent force in our lives..
“At times our own light goes out and is rekindled by a spark from another person. Each of us has cause to think with deep gratitude of those who have lighted the flame within us.” -Albert Schweitzer
“He is a wise man who does not grieve for the things which he has not, but rejoices for those which he has.” – Epictetus
“Go to foreign countries and you will get to know the good things one possesses at home.” – Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe
“Life without thankfulness is devoid of love and passion. Hope without thankfulness is lacking in fine perception. Faith without thankfulness lacks strength and fortitude. Every virtue divorced from thankfulness is maimed and limps along the spiritual road.” -John Henry Jowett
“For each new morning with its light,For rest and shelter of the night,For health and food, for love and friends,For everything Thy goodness sends.”-Ralph Waldo Emerson
“Silent gratitude isn’t much use to anyone.” -G.B. Stern
“God gave you a gift of 86,400 seconds today. Have you used one to say “thank you?” -William A. Ward
“No one is as capable of gratitude as one who has emerged from the kingdom of night.” -Elie Wiesel
“Gratitude is a vaccine, an antitoxin, and an antiseptic”
– John Henry Jowett
2. If you don’t invest into the Emotional Bank Account you can’t make withdrawals
I first heard about the Emotional Bank Account from Steven Covey.
Darren Stephens and John Gray talk about ‘the points you earn’ in ‘Men are From Mars, Women from Venus’
Darren talks about it on his interview with me on our CD of the month.
He tells us that men think completely different from women when it comes to ‘how many points is that worth?’
As a man I might think that cooking breakfast for the whole family then doing the dishes has to be worth at least 5 or even 10 points.
But John Grays research shows that is still only worth ONE point.
A box of chocolates would be worth another point… and a bunch of flowers, no matter if you had them shipped in direct from Holland or if you picked them out of your own front garden is still ONE point..
Either way, whether you are a boss, a manager, a parent, a teacher, a husband or wife, you are constantly either adding or subtracting from emotional bank accounts.
Make sure you have something in the account before you go for a withdrawal.
As I write this Monty Pythons ‘Always Look on the Bright Side of Life’ is playing on the music channel..
Is that synchronicity or what??
