Are You Playing To Your Potential?
Whether you are a Manager of a Business, or the Captain/Coach of a sports team – you want your team playing to their potential as often as possible.
Below is a picture of my City Beach Over 55 Water Polo team
on Grand Final day.
We had just lost the Grand Final by 3 goals.
So why are we smiling so broadly about how we played?
Because the team that beat us (Dolphins) had beaten us 15 goals to 5 only 3 weeks before.
We were 4-4 at half time.
Where You Focus Impacts Playing to Potential
We could have focused on the mistakes made in the third quarter that cost us the game.
We chose to focus on how well we had played to hold Dolphins so well for most of the
We also chose to focus on how close to our full potential we played.
Most of the Dolphins team had played A grade, State and National level
Most of our team had played not much higher that D Grade.
We were happy with our performance.
It doesn’t mean we don’t want to get better and beat them next year.
It does mean that we chose to learn from it, but also celebrate how lucky we are to still be able
to play competitive water polo at our age.
One of the secrets to success is how you handle defeat or setback.
It’s also learning to value the power of good competition.
It’s the competition that forces us to dig deep and discover even more greatness
and effort in us than we thought was previously there.
So, how close to your full potential are you playing your (business,
health, sport, relationship, financial) game?
