“More than a quarter of a century ago, Specsavers was born on a table-tennis table in a spare bedroom of the Perkins family home. Optometrists Doug and Mary Perkins had a simple plan: to offer a wide range of stylish, fashionable glasses at prices everyone could afford, with no compromise on the standards of eye care. From just two people with a dream, Specsavers has grown to become the third largest supplier of eye care in the world. The family-run company now employs over 26,000 people and supports almost 1400 practices in ten countries around the globe, including Australia, New Zealand, the UK and Europe.”

Here’s just one of them..
SO WHAT WORDS DO YOU OWN?
So what words do you own?
It’s worth spending 5 or 10 minutes getting clear on that.
In working with my good mate and client Greg Paterson at Paterson Group Architects this week, it was like a game of snap when I said the words that have jumped out of the marketing material we are developing for him and his team were….(and he said it at exactly the same time as me…spooky…)
“EFFICIENT USE OF CAPITAL”
As an Architect working for a Private Developer or Private Residence or a Government Project, you want the architect to get the maximum impact and maximum value from the money you invest. You want a building that delivers lifestyle, functionality, useability, but you also want to maximise the use of and return on your capital.
(As an aside Greg tells the story of how he saved a Private Developer over $1 million in construction costs but still maximised the budgeted rental return and resale on the building. Result = very happy client.)
Yes, it’s been a very inspirational week.
TRANSFORMATIONAL in fact..
Which is the word that keeps coming to mind to describe my work in my business.
What word do I want to own?
Without blowing my own trumpet, that is where I get my biggest kicks (in business that is..), from the TRANSFORMATION of businesses, sales processes, sales results and business improvements.
On Friday night I attended the West Australian Newspaper Sales Team Awards Night in Perth.
It was a fantastic night (they call it the WOSCARS..)
And the huge thrill I got seeing so many of the people I had coached and influenced getting up on stage and winning awards. (I’m not saying they won them solely because I coached them. What I am saying is that it was a thrill and an honour to be just part of their personal journey of Transformation and Growth..)
So what word do you want to own?
Will leave that thought and that challenge with you.
In the meantime… If you want some more to read (and download to your IPad to read or share with your team…)
To read more go to
1. Write down 3 words you would like to OWN
2. Share it with your close team mates and business mentors
3. Discuss what you would need to do to OWN that word.. Your systems. Your products. Your marketing. Your web site etc.
4. Get yourself a copy of my latest report and check out the piece on KNOW-DO or DO-NO Matrix and minimising or eliminating your Future Fortune Blind Spot
Have a good week..
