Why we should all be a Fabulous Fabio

Fabulous Fabio gets ready to lead us to the ‘All Italian Pool Party’ Night he organised as a special ‘No Money’ Gift to our Touring Group of 50 people.

It’s half way through the World Masters Water Polo tournament and we play our first finals game this afternoon at 5..

So I’m resting up for the big game..

But that’s not why I’m writing to you..

For the past 5 days we have stayed at a funny little hotel on the coast here in Riccione..

The Kent Hotel – Riccione..

The hotel.. the building… the bricks and mortar (with the pink decorations on the outside walls)

is not the thing that makes this place so special..

Its the husband and wife team that run the place..

Fabulous Fabio and his wife Dora have taken us into their lives and hearts as if we are old friends..

He laughs and cajoles..

He spends his day solving problems…. creating moments..

For example

1. Someone mentioned the other day it would be nice to have some fresh fruit at breakfast.

That afternoon Fabio takes me aside and says ‘would this be OK..?’ and shows me 3 big boxes of fresh fruit he had bought…

‘this is just for your group….is that Ok for you?’

‘Bravo Fabio… Grazia…’

His face lights up like a Christmas tree..

2. We want to go to San Marino but don’t have a map…

Within seconds Fabio hands over a map he has printed off..

He went to Google maps… prints it off and hands it to us..

3. After navigating a 9 seater bus up and back to San Marino, I park the car in the car park..

From a window in the hotel we hear this crazy Italian soccer celebration music…

Its Fabio with his head out the window playing some weird loud speaker to us and beaming with a cheekly grin…

‘Welcome Home….’ he sings from the window…

4. We’re all having a beer out the back after a game.. Fabio comes out with bags of chips and nuts and says.. ‘My gift to you….’

then he says…. ‘I want to put on bar bee que grill for you at my other property… no money… my gift to you…’

He then proceeds to organise a bar bee for our group of 50…

It was a poolside party last night with DJ, fantastic Italian bar bee and drinks..

Fabio and his wife are leading the dancing and laughing..

I have put his photo on my Facebook page and when I get around to it will put up on my blog too..

This guy loves being hospitable..

Of course he understands business and word of mouth…

But he genuinely wants people to have a good time at his hotel..

He lives and breathes making someones stay an enjoyable time….

Can you train this attitude?

Maybe you can and maybe you can’t but….

It certainly is a choice…

Making the choice to want to help people have a good time..

Making the choice to want to help people enjoy the moment..

Choosing to be in the moment…

Being in a happy, positive, helpful emotional state…

So that state transfers to the people who are around you…

You can choose to be in a positive, helpful, resourceful state

You can train people in how to access and be in this state more often.

You can train managers and leaders in how to coach, mentor and lead positive, resourceful workplaces and environments.

It’s a state from which you can solve problems, deal with whatever comes at you, help other people, get things done, make more sales and achieve more of what you want in life..

Edward De Bono once wrote about it as ‘water thinking’ where you can flow in and around blockages vs ‘rock thinking’ where you bang up against walls and hard surfaces.

Fabio’s service – water mindset, if we could bottle it and sell it, would be worth billions.

But it is a virus and it is contagious…

It’s so contagious I am hoping I can share just some of it with you right now..

As a manager, parent, salesperson, coach, professional, human being, see what you can do today and tomorrow to take Fabio’s lesson and spread the disease…
