Monday morning.. a day late writing to you..
Swim thru Rotto, birthday parties, surfing and Sunday lunch got in the way.. but read on.. interesting times..
LIFE IS FRAGILE
On Thursday I visited one of my oldest mates in hospital.. He’d just had a defibrillator inserted into his chest..
His heart went into ventricular fibrillation the week before at swimming training.
People worked on him for over 40 minutes to revive him. He was very lucky..
Then, after the 1600 metre Swim Thru, we had finished. We were standing around drinking some water and recovering and right in front of us a guy collapses..
Medico’s have to perform CPR on him..
It didn’t look good..
But again.. after 30 or more minutes working on him.. we get the word he is in hospital and will be OK..
Lesson: It can change at any moment… but while we are here.. let’s make the most it.. enjoy the day, our friends, our family, our health, our love…an attitude of gratitude..
There are reminders everywhere..
This isn’t going to last forever..
(Plus… Bonus lesson.. know CPR or hang around with people who know it… or BOTH..)
PS: No big deal.. but I came 4th in the 50-54 age group.. am pretty happy with that..
After the CPR incident.. am happy to just make it out alive..
LEAKING GOGGLES AND LATERAL THINKING
I have been driven crazy lately with these new swimming goggles I bought the other week.
When I first got them they were terrific.. nothing leaked..
Then they started leaking..
If you’re a swimmer, you’ll know… leaky goggles drive you crazy.
So, as I had done for over 30 years… If goggles leak.. you tighten them..
And if they leak more.. you tighten them more..
I was almost going to throw them away… but I thought.. at least I should take them back to where I bought them and let them know how badly they are designed..
Garry, the nice bloke I bought them off, said.. ‘you’ve got them way too tight.. you are distorting them…loosen them and the seal will work the way it is supposed to..’
Sure enough..the more I loosened them, the better they worked.
Completely the opposite to what I would have logically thought..
I used them this morning in the pool (loose…) and not a drop of water came in..
My brain is still dealing with the change of paradigm..
But it worked…
Lesson: Sometimes you have to do the opposite to what you think you should do to get the result you want..
Zig instead of Zag..
Go left instead of right..
Spend instead of save..
Save instead of spend..
Not sell so you sell…
Disturb and upset so you can please..
Who said I knew it all…??
Where do you need to loosen… spend… save… sell or not sell..?
